“Cloned Dogs (Boxers) with Water Bottles”

We confess that at first, we didn’t “get it.” Then we figured, “Eh,” we didn’t need to if it meant bringing attention to purebred dogs in the public square. In this case, “Cloned Dogs with Water Bottles” created in 2013 by William Sweetlove features Boxers, each made of Polyurethane foam covered with a 1/4 inch of polyurea.

These pieces located in West Hollywood, California were made for “Art on the Outside Program,” and while they may seem “kitschy,” they are Sweetlove’s artistic expression of what he sees as the overproduction and overconsumption of our society. His cloned dogs wear boots to prepare for the rise in sea level and carry water bottles to indicate that we are running out of drinking water.  He created the “cloned dog with water bottle” concept with a Brussels Griffon, French Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, and Dachshund that you can see here.
