The Difference that Inches can Make

There are better examples on the Internet of what dogs see based on their size, but none for which we have permission, so we took a picture in our backyard as “show and tell.”

The photo at the bottom left is what your dog sees if her eyes are about 8 inches above the ground (most toy breeds).

At the top left is the same view as seen by a dog whose eyes are about 34 inches above the ground.

The picture at the right is what anyone whose height is about 5′ 5″ would see.  Perspective is everything when you’re a working dog, like one hunting for a rabbit. It’s logical that some breeds jump up and down while hunting, such as a Podengo or Basenji, but there’s nothing like a visual aid to illustrate the difference that one good hop can make to a dog when it comes to spotting prey.
