It was Queen Victoria who became partial to the breed when her consort, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg, introduced her to Dachshies around the time of their marriage in 1840. Her fondness for the breed raised its profile and popularity around England. And did you notice that we wrote Dachshie and not Doxie? Why? Because according to Mirriam Webster, “doxie” means: 1) floozy/ prostitute; 2: mistress.
