In 2015, 265 dogs and their owners assembled to set a world record for the most number of people doing “doga” in a single class.
Doga?
Doga is yoga with dogs. Participants seek to bond more closely with their dogs through gentle massage, meditation, and stretching. Proponents insist that doga strengthens the relationship between owner and pet by “establishing a pack mentality. And besides, the dogs provide weight resistance which intensifies the workout. Traditional yoga disciples are having none of it. They feel that doga trivializes an ancient and sacred discipline by turning it into a “fad,” and that dogs interfere with all important concentration and relaxation, particularly if they’re not trained to cooperate. We leave it to doga and yoga enthusiasts to hash out, but as we see it, if no harm comes to a dog, we’re good with it.
That said, last January, 270 couples and their dogs attempted to break the “doga” record for Guinness World Records. Here’s what it looked like (check out the different breeds – and see if you can spot the dog sporting an Asian fusion haircut!)
