Artist’s Thoughts: My intention with this illustration was to create an image reminiscent of a yearbook but consisting of a smattering of purebred dogs. I tend to work in miniature, so it was important for me to find a structure in which I could exemplify the fine detail that I am used to working in without making an image that was too busy or convoluted. I tried to include some of my favorite breeds as well as a number of more endangered breeds; I chose to include a Dalmatian, a Puli, an Irish Deer-hound, a Basset, a Whippet, an Irish Wolfhound, a Welsh Corgi, a Flat-Coated Retriever, a Mastiff, a Field Spaniel, a Mini Pinscher, a Shih Tzu, a Xolo, a Bichon Frise, and a Shiba Inu. I also chose these specific breeds because I believe that as a whole they are an engaging representation of a broad range of different types of dogs, each with very unique and charming personalities. The blank space in the image on the mid-right side was purposefully intended to contain the text information for the poster.
