Dominic Gubb’s Unique Dogs

National Purebred Dog Day is fond of sharing the work of artists who help promote purebred dogs through their art, and when an artist comes along who approaches his or her subject in a unique way, we think it’s worth shining the spotlight on them. Welsh-based artist, Dominic Gubb, has made a career out of crafting animals, and dogs in particular, out of reclaimed material including leather, plastic bottles, furniture, and even unwanted gym ropes (the Wirehaired Dachshund at the top left, in fact, was created from steel armature and old rope). Gubb’s singular vision has him reconstructing breeds in surprising ways, and in spite of the dog below being swathed in green fabric, we bet you can identify its breed.

It’s a Bulldog, but then, you knew that because Bulldogs have a singular type that can’t be disguised by fabric.

Gubb’s own canine inspiration is a Jack Russell Terrier. To see more of Gubb’s work, click here, and to read an interview with the artist, read here.
