The only correct ear for the Toy variety of the Manchester Terrier is the naturally erect ear. If you see a Manchester and you’re not sure if it’s a toy or a standard, the ear is how you can distinguish the two: The latter can have ears that are naturally erect, cropped or button ears – all are correct. Toy Manchester Terriers, however, must have naturally erect ears We don’t have permission to share a dandy photograph of the ear types side by side, but you can see the comparison by going here.

Yes. However some toys may have ears that didn’t stand. Also my standard has naturally erect ears and they are correct per the breed standard. The only TRUE way to tell the difference is with a scale. 0-12# for toys and 12-22# for standards. Thanks for featuring a machester.
Having been in this breed for 37. . there are Manchester lovers that don’t crop ears if they aren’t being shown. I have a standard male that has one ear naturally erect and the other “flops” to the side but regardless, he’s still a manchester. Many companion Manchester lovers don’t mind what their dogs’ ears do if they aren’t exhibiting in conformation.
Good information, Kathy, thank you! There’s simply nothing to compare to the feedback of folks who’ve been in a breed for years, thank you again!
