It’s been five years since the dog world lost Charlee Helms, and she remains missed by the countless number of people she influenced with her good cheer and helpful ways. Charlee was an avid breeder, shower, groomer, and instructor, but she had a particular talent for reaching individuals new to dogs and the dog fancy. We at NPDD especially remember Charlee for her enthusiastic support of National Purebred Dog Day during its infancy.
To honor Charlee’s memory, we are sponsoring a photo challenge that plays on Charlee’s love of Dachshunds – hound dogs. Charlee had a serious streak of fun, so we think she would have gotten a kick out of a theme that plays on an Elvis Presley hit, “Hound Dog.” However, not everyone has a hound dog, so our theme is simply based on all things Elvis;
The challenge: Your challenge is to evoke anything Elvis. Is you or your dog an Elvis impersonator? Can you recreate one of his songs or put on a “really big show” (think Ed Sullivan)? The easier our judges can tell that your photo has to do with Elvis, and the more creatively you pull it off, the better your chance of success;
The prize: Your choice of an official Hound/Herding/Working breed deck of playing cards (the only groups that are currently completed), along with an official NPDD baseball cap in the breed group of your choice, and our most popular tote in saffron;
