Hard as it is to believe, there was a year when AKC registration numbers for the Rottweiler were lower than even for the Otterhound. The year was 1936, and the bottom five registration numbers were shared with the Border Terrier, Flat-Coated Retriever, Sussex Spaniel, and the Otterhound. It took a while, but Rottweiler numbers progressively climbed, and we’re challenging you to name the year the breed finally cracked the Top Ten in AKC registration numbers. A few hints. Our records are for the years 1935 to 2000. Also, the year the Rottie made it to the Top Ten, the average movie ticket cost $3.50, Gallaudet University selected its first deaf president in its history, a Bernardo Bertolucci film won nine Oscars, and U.S. Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, stated that nicotine was as addictive as heroin and cocaine. Yes, there were things that happened in this particular year that were hugely eventful, but we don’t want to make this too easy. Warning: The answer under the picture below that’s one more hint.
The picture above is of Tracy Chapman whose single, “Fast Car,” stormed into the top three in the year………………………………………………………………………………..1988. That was the first year the Rottweiler broke into the Top Ten of AKC registration numbers for the first time where it stayed until the year, 2000. How’d you do?
