Kammerhunde

At one time, the best, biggest, and most beautiful of Great Danes bred by German nobleman of the 17th and 18th century were known as “Kammerhunde,” or “dogs of the chamber.” They wore velvet-lined gilded collars trimmed with fringe and slept in the bedchambers of their princes and lords, protecting them from assassins as they slept.
