Scroll down, we have a question for you.
What do the pictures below all have in common?
Yes! It’s obvious that all the pictures are of holes in the ground leading to tunnels, and if you have a morbid fear of either, you probably suffer from gephyrophobia, a crippling anxiety of tunnels and bridges. Panic attack doesn’t begin to cover what sufferers feel, and we learned some 9.1 percent of adults meet the criteria for having a phobia in the span of a year, though we weren’t able to find what percentage of them deal with gephyrophobia.
You know who never suffers from gephyrophobia? Dogs that go to ground. Dogs like:
- American Hairless Terrier
- Australian Terrier
- Bedlington Terrier
- Border Terrier
- Cairn Terrier
- Cesky Terrier
- Dachshund
- Dandie Dinmont Terrier
- Glen of Imaal Terrier
- Jagdterrier
- Japanese Terrier
- Lakeland Terrier
- Manchester Terrier
- Miniature Bull Terrier
- Miniature Pinschers
- Miniature Schnauzer
- Norfolk Terrier
- Norwich Terrier
- Parson Russell Terrier
- Rat Terrier
- Russell Terrier
- Scottish Terrier
- Sealyham Terrier
- Silky Terrier
- Skye Terrier
- Smooth Fox Terrier
- Teddy Roosevelt Terrier
- Welsh Terrier
- West Highland White Terrier
- Wire Fox Terrier
- Yorkshire Terrier
These are all breeds eligible to compete in AKC earthdog trials, and they not only scoff at dirt holes, most delight in them. It didn’t take the Dachshund in the video below more than a moment to go “all in.”
We came across another video which offers a different view of a dog in a tunnel, this one another Dachshund. The video improves, so give it a moment:
We’ve shared videos of Dachshunds for a reason. The breed that has earned the most AKC Earthdog titles is the Dachshund. To our knowledge, and as of 2021, Dachshunds have earned a total of 14,262 AKC Earthdog titles.
