Monday’s Poem

I will hold my head up high
And take the road less travelled
Just me, myself, and I.

And I will conquer it because I revel in my perfectness.

The very last line in italics is ours, but we couldn’t resist adding it because of the priceless expression on this dog’s wonderful face. The entire poem appears below:

The Tough Road Ahead…

by Melody Valen

I search for a destination
More exciting and shining new
But does this untested adventure
Have anything to do with you
Or is this just me now
Looking for self-discovery
Because you have jumped off the track
Does that make me feel more free?
So why do I suddenly feel timid
Sunken, sullen and afraid
I can’t find the covers
To remake the bed you had made
So I lie here cold and naked
Sub-conscious and aware
That this trail of hidden treasures
Takes me far away from here
So, do I decide to travel
Down this foreign road of individuality
Or wait for the veil of unpromised
Blithe and blissful matrimony
Couldn’t you have waited
Do de-rail this speeding train
And held on a little longer
Before diving into the inane
Hapless, mindless, crazy pool
Of addiction and stupid fear
Could not you stay here with me
And help to dry away my tears
I already know the answer
Because I feel the pebbles beneath my feet
And I only hear my footsteps
Drumming the melodic, rythmic beat
So here alone I go
I will hold my head up high
And take the road less travelled
Just me, myself, and I
