The Old English Sheepdog has a typical roll at the rear of the dog (not the front) when ambling or pacing. This is the gait used when the OES moves stock, and the dog can go at this speed for miles. Old English Sheepdogs are working dogs, but more so “back in the day” than now. To avoid the luxury tax levied on owners of “pets” at one time, shepherds docked the tails of their drovers to prove their “working” status which is how the breed came by its nickname, “Bobtail.” This is merely information, and not a chance to debate the merits of docking, so let’s not go there.
