The Most Popular Type of White House Dog

Nineteen different terrier breeds were owned by United States Presidents throughout history, including the Rat Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Bull Terrier, Fox Terrier, Manchester Terrier, Welsh Terrier, and the Airedale Terrier. As an aside, 32 U.S. presidents thus far have owned dogs in the White House: 17 were Democrats, 4 were Independents, 18 were Republicans, and 3 were Whigs. And finally, the largest dog to live in the White House was “Rollo,” the St. Bernard belonging to Teddy Roosevelt.
