Artist’s Thoughts: I painted a dog from each of the breed groups happily playing together. Each has a bandana with a pattern representing what the breed can be known for.

Herding: German Shepherd (police badges)
Terrier: Rat Terrier (rats)
Toy: Yorkshire Terrier (bows)
Hound: Basenji (Africa)
Working: Husky (snow)
Non-Sporting: Dalmatian (fires)
Sporting: Vizsla & Golden Retriever (ducks)

I spent a lot of time trying to decide which sporting breed to include. My own dog is a Vizsla and his best friend is a golden retriever, so I painted both of them! Our second choice for a dog would have been a Basenji, so of course I had to include that breed as well. The others are well known breeds that I also like. I’ve always had an appreciation for purebreds and how different dogs were bred for different purposes. It’s incredible how unique dogs are!
