When We Can Relate to the Rich and Famous

Paris Hilton’s Chihuahua, Tinkerbell, packed a lot of living in her life, but while she was alive, her “punch” as a superstar evoked both dread and delight at the attention she brought to her breed. Wherever Paris Hilton went, so went Tinkerbell, whether it was hitting the hottest New York clubs, hitting the stores on Rodeo Drive, or hitting the local Wal-Mart in Altus, Arkansas. Tinkerbelle starred in The Simple Life with her mistress and Nicole Richie, but in 2004, she hit the big time with her tell-all memoir, The Tinkerbell Hilton Diaries: My Life Tailing Paris Hilton.  As we saw it, gullible people lapped it up, reasonable people, rolled their eyes, and shrewd people saw a “teachable moment” in which to educate the public about their breed.

All good things – and dogs – come to pass, and Tinkerbelle died in April, 2015 at the age of 14. Paris confirmed the sad news on Instagram, writing: “My heart is broken? I am so sad & devastated. After 14 amazing years together my baby Tinkerbell has passed away of old age. I feel like I’ve lost a member of my family. She was such a special & incredible soul.” Whatever else anyone thinks of Paris Hilton, when it comes to the loss of a beloved dog, we all had something in common with Paris.
