Artist’s Thoughts: I wholeheartedly believe in owning purebred dogs because you know what you’re getting in terms of temperament, size, health issues, and expected life span. As an artist, I’ve seen many old paintings with those little spaniels and wondered what they were. I wanted a small dog for my family, but not a high energy little yappy thing. Those Cavalier King Charles Spaniels would be the dog for me! My first one came to art school with me, sleeping under my easel. After she passed I got two more, who are now 10 years old. They are a total joy!

Painting Details: 20 x 26

I’ve done several paintings of my Cavaliers and a few commissioned portraits of Cavs, Labs, and a Shetland Sheep dog. A friend of mine breeds Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and I thought I’d like to do a painting of her stud Remy out in his element. They had done some pheasant hunting and I thought perfect, I’ll be over to take some pictures. My painting came out of that.  #NPDDArt2017
