Artist’s Thoughts: My lines of language technique is an exploration into how script can interact with the visual arts, creating a result separate from either one alone. Because everyone’s handwriting is unique, this style further enables me to create truly unique drawings of dogs.
When I created my lines of language style, I wanted to visualize the harmony between lines and shapes. As to why I chose to use my lines of language to draw dogs: Of course, many dogs have beautiful lines with flowing curves and strong jawlines and cheekbones. Others are irresistibly cute. (Then there is the fact that people and doggies have been molding themselves to meet each other’s needs pretty much forever.) By donating lithographs to dog rescues, I have been able to help organizations across the country and the world in their fund-raising efforts. My ongoing goal has always been to draw all AKC registered breeds, and with over 100 finished, I should be able to meet that objective. In my sample poster, I included one breed from each group.
