Saved by an Aggie

Even if you’re not into football, watch this great play made by someone not even in the game. It happens when a player runs out of bounds:

If you missed it, it was a “protection play” that defended Rough Collie and official Texas A&M University mascot, Reveille VIII, from injury.

Reveille has been the official mascot of the Texas Aggies since 1931. Though the first Reveille was a mixed breed, and the second one was a Shetland Sheepdog, the third Reveille was a Rough Collie, as have been all subsequent Reveilles. The current mascot (seen in the video) has served since August 2008 and will be retiring in the coming months.

Reveille is the highest-ranking member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, a student military organization that trains A&M students. Her primary duty is being a source of school spirit for A&M, which includes attendance at all football games. Tradition states that if she barks in a class, that class will be excused

When they die, each Reveille is buried in a special cemetery located outside the north end of Kyle Field. The bodies are laid facing the south end zone and the scoreboard. After the addition to Kyle Field was built at the north end, blocking the view of the scoreboard, a small scoreboard was placed outside the stadium, named the Reveille Scoreboard, so the tradition could live on.

Kudos to Ryan Kreider, Texas A&M sophomore, for protecting her!
