Spunky Dachshund

A real friend tells you if you have spinach stuck in your teeth. Just saying.

At 8 to 9 inches tall, and anywhere from 16 to 32 pounds, the Dachshund is the smallest of the AKC’s hound group, but don’t mistake the breed for being a pushover. When a breed standard includes the wording, “Inasmuch as the Dachshund is a hunting dog, scars from honorable wounds shall not be considered a fault,” it suggests a tough-as-nails dog. In 2008, researchers from the University of Pennsylvania questioned 6,000 dog owners for a study published in the Journal Applied Animal Behaviour Science. In it, the Dachshund was ranked the least timid of all breeds which is not to imply that the breed is like a Velociraptor, but rather that it is the “biggest” in terms of courage, spunk, boldness, and bravery, and is always ready and willing to take on badgers the breed was bred to hunt.
