“The Pharaoh Hound is the only breed that blushes – or needs to. Pharaoh Hounds have filthy minds.” Howard Ogden wrote this in “Pensamentoes.”
The breed is known for their “blush,” something that happens when they get excited, happy, or, evidently, when they have impure thoughts. They have no dark pigment in their skin, and a flush spreads across their ears and nose. This tendency to blush has been observed since the 19th Egyptian dynasty. An ancient letter dating back those times attests of a red hunting dog “whose face glows like a God.”
