Here’s another in the series of tips we’re sharing to help you prepare to deluge social media this May 1 with your own messages about your breed and purebred dogs.
If you haven’t seen any variation of the image at the left, you haven’t been awake! This motivational poster was one of three produced by the British government in 1939 in preparation for World War II, a way to boost the morale of the British public for the tough days ahead.
The first two posters were different from this one. The first wrote, “Your Courage, Your Cheerfulness, Your Resolution will Bring Us Victory,” while the other read, “Freedom is in Peril.” Both were produced by His Majesty’s Stationery Office and featured the crown of King George VI. They were glued on shop windows, posted on public transport, and pinned to notice boards.
The third poster is the red one above; it was never seen by the public, at least, not officially. It was to be issued only upon the invasion of Britain by Germany, and was later reduced to a pulp at the end of the war in 1945. Nearly 60 years later, a bookseller from Barter Books stumbled across a copy hidden amongst a pile of dusty old books bought from an auction. A few were also in the National Archives and the Imperial War Museum in London; fifteen more were discovered when the daughter of an ex-Royal Observer Corps member brought them to the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow in 2012. Needless to say, the posters caught on in a big way and became so commercialized that it’s hard to find something that hasn’t been reproduced with the “Keep Calm” words on it. We did our part:
Imgflip, the same site that helps you make memes, also has a way to create a “Keep Calm” poster using your own words:
Also on Imgflip, you can make pie charts like the one below that we threw together in a couple of minutes:
Be creative and have fun, and remember to use the hashtags #NPDD and #purebreddogs when posting your creations on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
