Toto IS in Kansas

In the small northeast Kansas town of Wamego at the corner of 4th and Lincoln, a small dog made of bronze stares at a fire hydrant. Part of a public art installation, the free standing form is one of fifteen similar statues scattered about this northeast Kansas town. They are all representations of Toto, the famous terrier from the film, The Wizard of Oz.

Kansas. Where better to put Toto?

Totos Around Town is the name of a public art display that was installed in 2018. The statues were decorated by different Kansas artists, then “adopted” by local businesses, organizations and individuals. But why install the sculptures in a town that few outside of Kansas are familiar with?

News flash! Wamego is home to the Wizard of Oz Museum, home to all things dedicated to OZ. From the earliest Baum books and OZ Parker Brothers board games to collectibles still being made, all ages will find something that appeals.

So how much do you know about Toto and the Wizard of Oz? For instance,  in what order did Dorothy meet her new friends in that magical place? Test your knowledge here.  Too easy? Try this one.
