What the Plott Hound Isn’t

It’s the only member of the Coonhound family that doesn’t trace its ancestry to the English Foxhound.  Point in fact is that it doesn’t trace its lineage to England at all!  The Plott Hound‘s creators, Enoch and Johannes Plott were German born, and the dogs they grew up with were more likely related to the Havoverian Hound. When they emigrated to American in the mid 18th century, it was five of these dogs that came with them. Word spread quickly among North Carolina hunters of the Plott’s hounds, and with the introduction of night hunts in the 1950s, the breed grew in popularity.
