Artist’s Thoughts:  I wanted to paint a portrait of my son’s dog, Orry, who just retired from the Sheriffs K9 unit. My son was his second handler but his first real home. Orry started with them when he was 14 months old. He is now 9 and suffered a permanent injury while on the job. I had already planned this when I heard of this competition so I put it into a 2-part painting “Working Orry- Retired Orry”. Orry is a very dark Sable German Shepherd who stopped millions of dollars of heroin, meth and other drugs from reaching their destination and also apprehended many really bad guys in his long career. I decided to honor his service but also show his loving teddy bear side by showing him lounging in the yard after retirement with this favorite beehive Kong
