Artist’s Thoughts: Through the medium of collage, I try and capture the dog’s personality as well as the character of the breed. I like using magazine cuttings from glossy magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and Architectural Digest which give me the quality and intensity of color that I am looking for. My collages can take upward of 30 hours to create since I sometimes cut multiple pieces before I find the right color or tone. I generally start with the ears as they give me the direction for the rest of the portrait. The eyes are very important in a dog portrait and I spend time making sure that they reflect the dog’s inner spirit.
