The Cap. Does Your Dog Have One?

Knowing dog terminology when you don’t show your dog isn’t silly, it just makes you a well informed dog owner (and a shoo-in to win Trivia Pursuit: The Canine Version if and when it comes out). To add to your knowledge base is this word: Cap.

On the face of it, the uninitiated may correctly guess (but only partially so) that “cap” refers to a dark covering of hair on a dog’s skull, but there’s more to it. Yes, “cap” refers to a dark pattern of hair on the skulls of some breeds, but included in the proper definition is that a “cap” extends downward to the eyes. If we were to tell you that this description is also referred to as a “widow’s peak,” you’ll instantly know what we mean.

So, show us your dogs’ “cap!”
