The Havanese and Maltese: Commercial Stars

It was one of Black and Decker’s most popular commercials, in part because it drove home in a very visual way just how dirty the space under our couches can be. TV ads that make us laugh are popular. TV ads that feature dogs and make us laugh are irresistible. For our part, we think the ad also proved a point: It would have been challenging to film the same commercial using two mixed breeds without resorting to a bit of cosmetic wizardry.

The “clean” white dog going under the couch is a Maltese. The “dirty” black dog coming back out is a Havanese, and as it happens, is co-owned by people we know because they also own Pulik. The dog’s name is Ch. Fuzzy Farm Ragtime of Namaskar, and as clever as we thought the commercial was, we were especially tickled by the dust coming off the Havanese when it shook itself (look for the subtle dust at the .17 mark).

  1. I had never seen this and it is great! We don’t have a TV, which was a blessing during the election. Every few months I find myself in a hotel room and that validates our decision not to replace the one that died in 2002. But then I see something like this, and I wonder how many other cool, commercials I’m missing. Thanks!

    • We’ll try to share all the cool dog commercials with your here, Sharyn (grin) – and to see what’s been posted here already, just do a search on “commercials’ in the search window. There really are some dandy ones out there (but we’re in awe of your decision not to own a TV set)!
