Laurie, Lou, and Lolabella

We don’t pretend to always under the work of performance artist and poet, Laurie Anderson,  but it’s clear she loves dogs. In 2016, she performed at Times Square in New York playing music composed for, and played at, a frequency suitable for canines, and suitably, her audience was made up of dogs and their owners.  Through the speakers, the music was barely audible, but the crowd was assured it had been adjusted for the enjoyment of the dogs, and headphones were provided for the humans so they could hear Anderson’s violin and keyboards. You can see scenes from the concert below:

In her 2015 movie, Heart of a Dog (shortlisted for an Oscar for the best documentary), Anderson reflected on the deaths of her husband Lou Reed, her mother, and her beloved Rat Terrier, “Lolabella.”

Laurie and Lou appeared with their Rat Terrier, Lolabella, on the Charlie Rose show (you can see Part I here) in 2003, though sadly, both Lou and Lolabella are gone now.
