The Boykin Spaniel which just might be the only AKC-recognized breed named after a town and a person. “Boykin” is the surname of one of South Carolina’s oldest and most widespread families, though it was L. Whitaker Boykin developed the breed. It’s also the name of a small settlement on a mill pond between Camden and Sumter in the state’s Midlands region.
