The Only Dog To Attend a Heisman Trophy Ceremony

In 1982, University of Georgia school mascot,  “Uga IV,” an English Bulldog, became the first mascot ever invited to the bulldog,Herschel Walker,Uga IV,Heisman TrophyDowntown Athletic Club in New York City and the Heisman Trophy presentation. He accompanied UGA superstar,  Herschel Walker (who said “Uga” looked better in a tux than he did) and the president of the Downtown Athletic Club. In the photo below, “Uga” poses with his owner, Frank Seiler, a Savannah, Ga., attorney and member of the university’s athletic board, and Herschel Walker just before the Heisman Trophy Banquet in New York.

Walker, of course, won the trophy that year. As for Uga IV, he served from 1981-1990 (when “the Dawgs” lost a tough Sugar Bowl game to Pittsburgh).  UGA IV died in 1990.

Ever wondered what it sounds like when 91,000 people yell “Bulldog?” (you know you have!)  Herschel Walker led a stadium full of fans in the “Geor-gia, Bull-dog” cheer just minutes before the SEC showdown against Alabama:
