Stockings and Socks

While the terms, “stocking” and “socks” are very similar, in the dog world, there is a difference. White markings that cover most of a dog’s leg and against the contrasting coat color is called a “stocking.” When the white markings cover only the feet, or don’t reach beyond the pasterns (or wrist),  they’re called “socks.” The dog in this image has socks.
