The Groomer’s Guide’s “Bad Hair Day” Photo Challenge

We welcome first time sponsor, Certified Master Groomer, Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins to National Purebred Dog Day, who brings a fun photo challenge.

Angry Hair, Bed Head, Helmet Hair, Rat’s Nest,  Unruly Mane – there wouldn’t be so many different names for having a bad hair day if most of us haven’t “been there.” Dogs have them too! Sometimes it’s an “owner error,” and sometimes, it’s the dog who undoes the best grooming job because chasing a squirrel won’t wait. Hardly the domain of coated breeds, short coats can attract that which doesn’t belong, too!

The challenge: Our judges have years of experience of looking at, judging, and/or photographing impeccably groomed canines. Your challenge is to catch your dog looking “not-so-impeccable” without artificial manipulation (read: keep it real. but safe).  Maybe that look happens in the dog bath – or after. Perhaps the dog got into all the wrong places, or after a good romp under a bed, s/he emerges looking like Cousin It.  And just maybe, you had a grooming debacle. It happens – but don’t forget the sign!

The prize: Two 24 x 36 sized versions of the “Groomer’s Guide to the Fifteen Coat Types:” The genetics, dermatology, and grooming differences in various coat types in poster form, perfect for the dog room, grooming shop, kennel room, and more.
