The “Jumping Up and Down” Dog

Though the better known nickname for this breed is the “barkless dog,” the high grass of the Congo plains necessitated the Basenji’s habit of intermittently leaping up to see above the blades. This lead to the breed’s African nickname,”m’bwa m’kube m’bwa wamwitu” which translates to the “jumping up and down dog.”
