Most people forget that Newfoundlands also come in brown,  gray, and white and black, the black and white version known as the “Landseer,” (said to be named after the famed artist, Sr Edwin Landseer  [1802 – 1873] who painted the breed quite often).  Although the Landseer is recognized as a color variation by the AKC and the Kennel Club, the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI)  categorizes it as a separate breed.
