The Smallest Member of the Sporting Group

He’s the smallest member of the sporting group, but he emerged from a larger spaniel population in England during the 1800s. His kind was often shown as Field Spaniels at the earliest dog shows, then later, as “Other Small Breeds of Spaniels.” He is the Cocker Spaniel, and the first time classes were offered expressly for Cocker Spaniels was in 1883.
