There Can Be Only One

Earlier, we picked through a breed standard to share some of what we might look at to determine a breed when its name isn’t known to us. We left for last the language pertaining to color which in this standard reads, “[This] is primarily a white dog with lemon color or orange color markings.” When put together with our other clues: Long, low, and substantial, ears that are triangular in shape with a rounded lower edge, strongly developed fews, a haw that may show, a heavy brow, deep chest, straight forelegs, powerful hindquarters, massive bone and good feet all give him the power and endurance to move through dense underbrush, there can be only one breed meeting these descriptions, and that’s the Clumber Spaniel
