Ubu Roi

Remember this?

If you were a fan of the TV shows, Spin City Family Ties, or Brooklyn Bridge and stuck around for the closing credits, you saw this picture and heard the words, “Sit, Ubu, Sit.”

Ubu Roi was Gary David Goldberg’s black Labrador Retriever and served as mascot for Goldberg’s production company (also named, Ubu Productions).  Credits at the end of the aforementioned shows flashed a photograph of Ubu Roi holding a Frisbee, and off camera, Goldberg voiced, “Sit, Ubu, sit!” and “Good dog!”  Ubu responds with a single bark.

Ubu Roi was named after the 1896 satirical play by Alfred Jarry. Sadly, Ubu died in 1984.
