What Breed Holds the Record for the Loudest Bark?

The other day on our Facebook page, we invited readers to share their “Monday Moans,” and one of them was from a poor soul whose dogs on that day were, “barkaholics.” We get it. There are those times when our own dogs seem especially opinionated, and it’s puzzling, if not annoying. Full moon? Barometric pressure? Who knows. But it can always be worse. Back in 2012, a Golden Retriever named, “Charlie” broke the record held previously by a German Shepherd Dog for the loudest bark.
Charlie’s bark measured 113.1 dB (equivalent to a rock band) during the Purina Bark in the Park event in Rymill Park, Adelaide, Australia. The record he smashed was the mere 108 dB emitted by “Daz” in 2009 (the dog seen below), a loudness equivalent to a pneumatic drill. On that occasion, Disney had released its DVD/Blu-ray of “Bolt,” the super dog with the super bark, and in the spirit of fun, they were looking for a real life dog with a “super bark.”

Maybe we’ve been around dogs too much, or maybe Charlie wasn’t in rare form the day the video below was shot, but his “woof” doesn’t seem so awful to us. What do you think?
